Cariqa helps you compare prices across nearby charging stations so you can choose the best option based on your needs. Operators set different types of pricing models, and understanding how they work will help you spot the best deals.
Here’s a quick guide to the common pricing types and how to find the most competitive rates.
1. Pricing types you might see
Fixed pricing
A fixed price per kWh that stays the same regardless of the time of day or day of the week.
This is the simplest structure — predictable and easy to compare.
Dynamic pricing
Prices change depending on the hour or day of the week.
For example, night tariffs can be much cheaper, or an operator may offer lower prices during off-peak hours.
If a station uses dynamic pricing, you can see the hour-by-hour price overview directly in the pricing section on the station page.
Smart pricing
Smart pricing adjusts based on station utilisation.
When demand is low, the price might drop; when demand is high, it may increase.
This helps operators balance usage — and helps you take advantage of cheaper periods during periods of low utilisation.
2. Important note: How the final energy tariff is determined
Regardless of the pricing model used by the operator (fixed, dynamic or smart), the energy tariff applied to your charging session is always the tariff valid at the moment the session begins.
The tariff is locked in at the start of your charging session.
It remains valid for the entire duration of the session.
Operators cannot change the energy price once your session has started.
This follows current regulatory requirements:
Prices must be communicated upfront and cannot change during an active charging session.
3. How to find the best deal near you
Cariqa offers tools to help you quickly identify the most competitive stations:
3.1 Use the partner filter
Partner stations (marked in neon yellow) offer better pricing and special promotions (when available). Learn more in: What is a partner station?
Using the partner filter helps you surface the stations offering the best value in your area.
3.2 Compare price breakdowns
When you select a station, scroll to the pricing section to see:

This lets you compare stations and find the most cost-effective option for you.
