How is my ChargeCard protected?
Your ChargeCard is locked by default. This means no one can use it to start a charging session without your approval, even if they have physical access to the card.
Why does Cariqa include ChargeCard security?
Unfortunately, RFID charging cards are a common target for fraud. This is because they are completely unencrypted, and the card’s unique identifier (UID) is shared with multiple parties across the charging ecosystem.
Many drivers are not aware of this, but RFID misuse happens more often than expected.
To better protect our customers, we introduced an additional (optional) security layer. This helps prevent misuse of the card and avoids any ambiguity regarding who is responsible for a charging session.
How do I unlock my card?
To use your ChargeCard, open the Cariqa app and go to Home → ChargeCard → Unlock.
Once unlocked, your card will remain active for 15 minutes. During this window, you can start a charging session. After 15 minutes, the card automatically locks itself.
Can I change the unlock duration?
Yes. Go to Profile → ChargeCard → Security settings to adjust how long your card stays unlocked.
You can also disable the lock entirely, but we strongly recommend against this. If your card is lost or stolen, anyone can use it to charge on your account.
What happens if I lose my card?
If your card is lost or stolen, block it immediately to prevent unauthorized use.
Go to Profile → ChargeCard → Report lost and confirm. Once blocked, the card cannot be used to start any sessions.
You can order a replacement card anytime from the same menu.
Can someone else use my card?
If card security is enabled, no. The card must be unlocked in your app before it can be used.
If card security is disabled, yes. Anyone with your card can start a session on your account. This is why we recommend keeping the security on at all times.
How do I know if my card was used without permission?
All ChargeCard sessions appear in your charging history under Home → Charging history.
If you see a session you didn't authorize:
Block your card immediately under Profile → ChargeCard → Report lost.
Contact support at [email protected] with details of the unauthorised session.
Can I share my ChargeCard with family or friends?
Your ChargeCard is linked to your Cariqa account and payment method. If you share it with someone, any sessions they start will be billed to your account.
If you want to give someone access to charging, we recommend they create their own Cariqa account and order their own card.
